Ailing

Some of the University’s most historic buildings can be seen in a new light as part of a three-day sound and fire spectacular on Broad Street. For three hours each night, from 7-10pm on Thursday 15 until Saturday 17 March, electric lights will be switched off. Instead the area will be transformed by the light of a thousand flickering fires.

Following extensive safety and insurance checks, the University gave the go-ahead for its buildings to be illuminated as part of the fire installation which is part of the Oxfordshire 2007 celebrations.

Strings of pots containing lit candles will illuminate the Clarendon Building and Sheldonian Theatre, a giant candelabra hangs outside Balliol College, while in the centre of Broad Street a 15 metre spire of bamboo and metal with a slow-moving pendulum will make approximately 1,000 swings, each swing cycle representing a single year of Oxfordshire’s history. A programme of live music by Oxford Contemporary Music will accompany the event.

The installation is the work of French art group, Carabosse, working in collaboration with Oxford-based artist Ted Dewan. Exeter College is showing its support for the project and for Oxfordshire 2007 by playing host to the team of French artists. The Rector, Frances Cairncross, said: ‘Exeter College is delighted to support Luminox, because it feels strongly that the College has a role to play in the city and not just in the University. We are delighted to be given the opportunity to show our support for such a creative and innovative project.’

從這個星期四到星期六每天晚上的七點到十點。
Broad St，也就是每次要去Bodleian圖書館的必經之路，將點綴著音樂，藝術和火焰。
昨天晚上特別出門欣賞和拍照，溫暖的暗紅火光取代了路燈，一種很浪漫的感覺。
每一個點火的裝置都有不同設計，但主要是用栽種植物的小花器組成。

另外也有社區民眾製作的小小燈籠，透明玻璃瓶外貼上透光的宣紙，瓶內點上蠟燭後就會顯出不同的顏色很有趣。

街道的正中央架了一個狀似蒙古包的小小舞台
浪漫的火光當然要有悅耳的音樂表演陪襯，經過時正好是古箏的表演，很有感覺。

我最喜歡的造型是燃燒的地球以及鏤空刻著花紋的直柱（詳情請見照片^^）
今天從圖書館回家的路上還能再欣賞一次^^
